Ingredients:

  • 1.5 kg (3.3 lbs) of Northeast rice (大米)
  • 1.5 L (5 cups) of water
  • 1 onion, diced

  • 1 garlic clove, minced

  • 1 tsp of black pepper
  • 1 tbsp of vegetable oil

Instructions:

  1. Wash and soak the Northeast rice for 30 minutes.
  2. In a large pot, bring the water to a boil.
  3. Add the soaked rice and cook for 15 minutes, or until all the water is absorbed.
  4. Add the onion, carrot, celery, ginger, and garlic to the pot.
  5. Season with salt and black pepper.
  6. Cook for 5 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender.
  7. Serve hot with a side of crusty bread.
